There is a wrong kind of attention. It can surveil us. It can measure us. It can hear us without ever listening. Most of us have experienced it. Some of us have been shaped by it in profound ways.
And then there is another kind of attention entirely.
Dr. K knows the difference. It is her lived experience. She grew up where the wrong kind of attention was everywhere and the right kind was almost nowhere. She overcame it by becoming precise, resilient, and relentlessly purpose-driven — earning six degrees including a Ph.D., teaching ethics and apologetics at a seminary and university, serving on hospital ethics committees, working as a U.S. intelligence officer trained by some of the finest minds in the American intelligence community, and becoming one of the leading voices at the intersection of AI and Christian theology.
The question that drove all of it was deceptively simple: is there a right kind of attention? She learned in her late twenties that the answer is a resounding yes — and it is found in Jesus. He found her in a hair salon in Las Vegas in the mid-1980s, at one of the lowest points of her life, and changed her identity, her direction, and her purpose. The right kind of attention does that.
Across twenty years in classrooms, boardrooms, classified vaults, hospital ethics committees, ministry networks, and AI consulting, she kept seeing the same pattern: certain individuals being overlooked, silenced, and muted by systems and organizations that consistently dismissed them, disempowered them, and did not understand what they could bring to the table. She understood that this trend could be exacerbated in the AI Age.
Attention Inc. was founded to address this very issue.
